The Fundamentals of Public Participation (P2) course is a prerequisite to other courses in the Global Learning Pathway that sets out the underpinning models and frameworks of engagement practice as defined by the IAP2 community.
The focus of this course is on understanding and applying the practices of meaningful and effective P2 and what participants need to know to do this well. The training explores best practices, and how to design and apply this knowledge to your P2.
Course objectives
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Define P2 and related terms and what makes it unique
- Identify what makes P2 meaningful, and reflect on the benefits, risks and myths related to P2
- Identify the role that values play in P2 work, and the leadership attributes that will serve them in practice
- Reflect on and apply ethical leadership actions and abilities to P2 situations
- Apply the Profiles of P2 model to P2, and explore organization- and community-led engagement and how that impacts the engagement process
- Reflect on and apply the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion, and explore the roles and impacts of power and influence
- Apply the IAP2 Spectrum to P2 situations and practice
- Explore the Practice Framework as a tool for effective planning and process, and assess the quality of the process

Cancellation and Refund Policy
We understand that life can happen.
You may cancel your registration 14 days or more before the first day of the course and receive a refund less a $50 cancellation fee. Registrations are non-refundable less than 14 days in advance. Registrations are transferable within the same organization at any time. All substitutions or cancellations must be in writing.
​Confluence Training reserves the right to make subsequent cancellations or changes and should it do so, its liability is limited to the return of the enrollment fee. In the event of fire, flood, storm or threatened storm, earthquake, riot, strike, lockout, civil disturbance, actual or threatened terrorist attack or act of war, or restraint of government, or for any other reason beyond Confluence Training’s reasonable control, Confluence Training shall have the right to reschedule the training dates in the interest of attendee safety. We reserve the right to correct any print errors.
Please submit requests to cancel or transfer registration to another individual in your company to info@confluencetraining.com.
Courses require a minimum number of participants to proceed so that the best learning experience is provided. Confluence Training reserves the right to cancel courses 5 business days before the course start date if the minimum number of participants isn’t reached. Registered participants may opt to transfer their registration to another course or to receive a full refund.
To guarantee your spot in a course, full payment is required 10 days before the course starts. If you require an exception, please email info@confluencetraining.com.
No refunds will be given for missing all or part of a course. Courses are not recorded. Each session builds and draws on knowledge and skills from previous sessions. If you miss the first day of a multi-day course, you will be asked to withdraw and attend a subsequent course offering. If an emergency occurs that prevents you from completing the course, please email info@confluencetraining.com to discuss your options.
