Tech Setup and What to Expect

We use a few easy-to-learn, collaborative platforms to create an engaging, hands-on learning experience. Here’s what you need to know before class begins:

🧈Butter (Our Virtual Classroom)

Class will take place on Butter—not Zoom. If you’ve used Zoom before, Butter will feel familiar, but as they say, it’s “smoother”! Everything is contained in one window, and the tools (like breakouts, polls, timers, and agendas) are easy to find and use.

  • First time using Butter? Check out the How To Butter Participant Guide.

  • How to join:

    • Use the Butter app or your Chrome browser (Firefox is NOT supported).

    • The link to join will be sent in the calendar invitation and in the emails we send before class. We will use the same link each time we meet.

  • Tips for the best experience:
    • Join on a laptop or desktop (not mobile)

    • Each participant needs to log in on their own device

    • If you are in a shared space, please use a headset with a microphone

    • Don’t use incognito mode

    • Disable ad blockers so third-party tools (like YouTube and Google Docs) work properly

    • Test your mic, camera, and speakers using Butter’s Setup Guide before class or use the “Test” function in the waiting room

    • Close any heavy programs (e.g., video streaming, file syncing) to improve performance

    • If your organization uses a firewall or VPN, check with your IT department to ensure access

  • Need help? Email Graeme, our friendly producer and tech support, at support@ConfluenceTraining.com to schedule a one-on-one or group tutorial.

📄 Collaboration
  • We use Google Docs for collaborative written activities, reflection, and group work.

  • We also use Miro, a visual collaboration platform.

  • Course materials will be shared via Google Drive.

  • No account or download is required to participate.

  • Please use a device that allows you to type and collaborate in real time with classmates.

🛠 Tech Support During Class

Please test your setup ahead of time using the links above. Graeme will be available for tech support during class. If you’d like a remote tutorial or help getting set up, email support@ConfluenceTraining.com and we’ll make sure you’re ready to go.

🤝 What to Expect

This is not a webinar—it’s an interactive, experiential class. You’ll be asked to participate in group discussions, breakout rooms, and chat-based activities. Your voice, experience, and ideas are essential!

  • Closed captions will be available.

  • For privacy reasons, classes are not recorded, and AI transcription is not permitted.
