Tech Setup and What to Expect

🤝 What to Expect

This is not a webinar—it’s an interactive, experiential learning environment. You’ll be invited to participate in small and large group discussions, breakout rooms, and chat-based activities. Your ideas and experience create better learning for everyone.

We use a few easy-to-learn, collaborative tools to support an engaging, hands-on learning experience.

🧈Butter Online Classroom

Online classes will take place on Butter—not Zoom. If you’ve used Zoom or Teams, Butter will feel familiar—and, as they say, a bit smoother. Everything happens in one window, with tools like Miro, Google Docs, and polls built right in.

• New to Butter? Take a look at the How To Butter Participant Guide.

• Join using the Butter app or your Chrome browser (Firefox is NOT supported). You will receive the join link in your calendar invitation and pre-class emails. We will use the same link for each session.

• Please test your setup ahead of time using the links above so class time can focus on learning.

• Graeme Hart, our producer, will be available during class to support any tech issues.

• Tips for the best experience:

  • Join from a laptop or desktop computer

  • Each participant needs to log in from from your own device. Do not share a device; expect to be in separate breakout rooms.

  • If you are in a public space (coffee shop or office), please use a headset with a microphone

  • Disable ad blockers so embedded tools (like Google Docs) work properly. Avoid using incognito or private browsing mode.

  • Test your mic, camera, and speakers using Butter’s Setup Guide or the “Test” option in the waiting room

  • Close bandwidth-heavy programs (such as video streaming or file syncing) to improve performance

  • If your organization uses a firewall or VPN, check with your IT team to ensure access

📄 Collaboration - Online and In Person

• We use Google Docs, Google Sheets, Miro and other collaboration apps for individual and group work.

• Course materials are shared through Google Drive.

• No account setup or downloads are required to participate in class.

• Please use a device with a keyboard so you can type and edit.

🛠 Accessibility and Privacy​

• Closed captions will be available in online courses.

• For privacy reasons, recording and AI transcription is not allowed without prior permission.
